Intermediate
**************
The second day of the Meath cross country championships was organised by St Brigids AC at Loughcrew, today,15 October. The race of 8000m run over 8 hilly laps in the shadow of the Sliabh Na Caillaigh inspired great performances from our athletes as they sought to retain the team event they won in 2005.
After one lap Rory McDonnell took the lead and held on to win the individual race by 2½ minutes adding the county intermediate title to his novice victory achieved in Frayne earlier this month.
Behind Rory there was an intriguing battle for the minor placings and prticularly for the team prize. At the ½ way stage Bohermeen were leading with 19 points from Dunboyne in 2nd with 24 points. With one lap to go the gap was down to 1 with Bohermeen on 22 and Dunboyne on 23. On the run in Morgan McDonagh ran on to finish 3rd passing John Gill of Bohermeen thus giving Dunboyne the points to win the McDonnell trophy and the team event.
Dunboyne team placings: Rory McDonnell 1st, Morgan McDonagh 3rd, Declan Horgan 7th and Donal O'Mathuna 11th.

In the course of the race Rory lapped his father Tommy who was on his way to a bronze in the over 55 category. Winner of the over 55 Category was Eddie Reid and second was Ray Duggan. Frank Fagan finished 2nd in the over 60 category.
